At least 20 people have reportedly been killed following an ambush on a joint security patrol in Plateau State, according to local sources and community leaders.

The attack was said to have occurred in the Wanka area of Kanam Local Government Area, where armed assailants allegedly targeted a patrol team made up of security personnel and local vigilantes.

Reports indicate that the patrol team was conducting a routine security operation when the attackers ambushed them, leading to a deadly confrontation.

Community sources said several members of the patrol team were killed during the incident, with the casualties believed to include both security operatives and members of local vigilante groups assisting in the operation.

Local leaders in the affected communities have called on the federal government and security agencies to strengthen security presence in the area to prevent further attacks.

As of the time of filing this report, security authorities have not released a full official statement confirming the exact number of casualties. However, efforts are reportedly ongoing to track down the perpetrators and restore calm to the affected communities.

Plateau State has witnessed several security challenges in recent years, with attacks by armed groups affecting both civilians and security personnel in parts of the state.
