Police Confirm 23 Dead, 108 Injured in Maiduguri Bomb Blasts

By Erewunmi Peace

23 people have been confirmed dead and 108 others injured following multiple bomb explosions in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the casualty figures after the blasts rocked several locations across the city on Monday evening. The explosions occurred around 7:24 p.m., sending panic through residents and traders in the affected areas.

According to security sources, the attacks occurred at three major locations in Maiduguri, including the popular Monday Market, the gate of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, and the Post Office flyover area.

Emergency responders, security personnel, and medical teams were quickly deployed to the scenes of the explosions to rescue victims and transport the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities believe the explosions were caused by improvised explosive devices (IEDs), suspected to have been carried out by suicide bombers. Security agencies have since increased patrols and surveillance across Maiduguri to prevent further attacks.

The Borno State government and security officials have urged residents to remain calm while investigations into the incident continue.

Maiduguri, which has long been at the center of Nigeria’s fight against insurgency in the northeast, has experienced several attacks in the past linked to extremist groups operating in the region.

Further updates are expected as authorities continue rescue operations and investigations into the incident.
