A South African Home Affairs official has been implicated in an alleged fraud case involving the irregular approval of a five-year visa, raising concerns about oversight within the country’s immigration system.
The official, Boitumelo Shounyane, who was attached to the South African High Commission in Abuja, is accused of facilitating the approval of a long-term business visa under questionable circumstances.
According to reports, the visa was granted using irregular documentation, prompting an investigation by South African authorities. The matter is currently being handled by the Special Investigating Unit and the State Security Agency.
Preliminary findings suggest that the visa may have been issued to a close associate of the official, raising concerns about possible abuse of office and breach of immigration procedures.
Authorities have since launched a formal probe into the incident, and disciplinary measures are expected as investigations continue.
Officials have stressed that the case highlights the need for stricter controls and accountability within the visa approval process to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The situation remains under investigation, and no final judgment has been issued at this time.
