A socio-political group, the God and People Prayer Parliament, has proposed the restructuring of Nigeria into seven confederal republics as a solution to the country’s political and security challenges.

The proposal, which has sparked public discussion, suggests dividing the country into regional entities with greater autonomy over governance, resources, and internal security. According to the group, such a system would allow each region to manage its affairs more effectively while maintaining a loose central authority.

The suggested structure includes regions such as the Hausa Republic, Borno Republic, Oduduwa Republic, Biafra Republic, and the Niger Delta Republic, among others, bringing the total to seven proposed confederal units.

The group argued that the move could help address long-standing issues such as insecurity, economic imbalance, and governance inefficiencies across the country.

However, the proposal has not been adopted by the Federal Government and remains a recommendation from a non-governmental body. Analysts note that any move toward such a system would require significant constitutional amendments and national consensus.

The development has generated mixed reactions, with some stakeholders supporting the idea of restructuring, while others have expressed concerns about its implications for national unity.

As discussions continue, experts emphasize the need for inclusive dialogue and careful consideration of any proposals aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s political structure.
