The Federal Government has shut down three factories in Ogun State over serious violations of occupational safety standards, raising fresh concerns about the welfare of industrial workers in Nigeria.

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, ordered the closure during an inspection of industrial facilities in the Ogijo area of the state.

According to reports, the affected factories were found to have exposed workers to hazardous conditions, including unsafe environments and lack of proper protective equipment.

The inspection revealed multiple breaches of safety regulations, with workers allegedly operating in dangerous conditions without adequate protection. Authorities also noted that some of the companies had previously been warned but failed to comply with required standards.

The minister described the situation as unacceptable and a serious threat to the lives of employees.

Speaking during the inspection, Onyejeocha warned that the government may declare a nationwide emergency on occupational safety if companies continue to disregard worker protection laws.

She emphasized that any organization found compromising the safety of its workers would face strict sanctions, including closure and legal action.

The shutdown of the factories is part of broader efforts by the Federal Government to enforce compliance with labour laws and improve workplace conditions across the country.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to safeguarding workers and ensuring that industrial operators adhere to established safety guidelines.
