The Armed Forces of Nigeria have confirmed the arrest of sixteen military officers over allegations of indiscipline and violations of service regulations.
Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, noting that the arrests followed investigations into recent acts that contravened the military’s code of conduct.
According to him, preliminary findings revealed that the affected officers had shown “unacceptable conduct unbecoming of commissioned personnel,” leading to their immediate detention pending further inquiry.
“The Nigerian Armed Forces maintain zero tolerance for indiscipline, insubordination, and all forms of misconduct that threaten the integrity and professionalism of the military institution,” Brig. Gen. Gusau stated.
He added that the officers’ actions violated established service procedures, emphasizing that all indicted personnel will face the full military disciplinary process, which could include court martial proceedings after ongoing investigations are concluded.
The Defence Headquarters reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline and professionalism within the ranks, assuring Nigerians that the internal processes of the military remain robust and transparent.
Reports indicate that the affected officers had allegedly expressed grievances related to stalled career progression and repeated failures in promotion examinations, which may have influenced their conduct.
The military authorities, however, insisted that no justification can excuse indiscipline, stressing that the Armed Forces of Nigeria would continue to uphold the highest standards of order and accountability among its personnel.
