Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has expressed deep sorrow following the killing of soldiers in a deadly ambush by armed bandits in Giro Masa, Shanga Local Government Area. Describing the incident as a “great loss” and “a sad day,” the governor visited the affected security personnel and their families to convey his condolences.

The attack occurred when militants ambushed a security team responding to a distress call, leading to the deaths of 11 soldiers and one police officer, according to official reports. The victims were part of forces deployed to maintain peace and protect local communities in the state.

Governor Idris visited the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where he met with injured personnel and oversaw the arrangements for the fallen heroes. He reiterated the government’s support for their families and pledged ongoing efforts to strengthen security in the region.

The tragic event underscores the persistent security challenges in northwest Nigeria, where banditry and militant attacks continue to claim lives and threaten stability. Authorities have vowed to investigate the ambush and reinforce security measures in affected communities.
