False reports about the death of legendary Yoruba actor Chief Lere Paimo, popularly known as Eda Onile Ola, circulated widely on social media over the weekend. However, multiple authoritative sources have confirmed that the veteran actor is alive and in good health.

The rumour began after an unverified post claimed the 85-year-old actor had passed away. The news quickly gained traction, causing confusion among fans and stakeholders in the Nigerian film industry.

In a swift response, the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) publicly debunked the report. The association revealed that it contacted the actor’s family and confirmed that Chief Paimo is doing well.

According to ANTP representatives, the misinformation was “unfortunate and misleading,” urging the public to desist from spreading unverified stories, especially concerning the health of public figures.

In addition, individuals close to the actor—including a personal assistant and respected industry figures—also dismissed the rumour as fake. They reassured Nigerians that the actor is alive and thanked fans for their concern.

Chief Lere Paimo, a cultural icon and one of the most respected figures in Yoruba theatre and film, continues to be celebrated for his decades-long contribution to indigenous storytelling.
