Soludo–Obi Rift Deepens as APGA Accuses Ex-Governor of Running Down Ngige and Obiano

By Erewunmi Peace

Tensions in Anambra State politics have intensified as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has accused former Governor Peter Obi of allegedly running down his predecessors, Dr. Chris Ngige and Chief Willie Obiano, in an attempt to elevate his own political achievements.

APGA’s National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, made the accusation in a statement at the weekend, alleging that Obi had developed a “penchant for belittling the legacies” of past Anambra leaders.

According to Opara, Obi’s recent remarks on governance and infrastructure were targeted at diminishing the contributions of both Ngige and Obiano, who governed the state before and after him. He claimed that Obi’s comments were misleading and aimed at projecting himself as the only reform-driven leader in the state.

“Mr. Peter Obi has repeatedly attempted to rewrite the history of Anambra’s development by downplaying the efforts of Dr. Ngige and Chief Obiano. This pattern of distortion is unbecoming of someone who once governed the state,” the APGA spokesman said.

The development comes amid an already strained relationship between Obi and the current governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, who has publicly disagreed with Obi on several issues, including infrastructure development and governance style.

Political observers say the latest accusation reflects the escalating rivalry within Anambra’s political landscape, particularly between APGA and supporters of the Labour Party, where Obi currently holds influence.

As of press time, Peter Obi and his media team have not issued a response to APGA’s claims.
