2025 SSSCE Not Cancelled — FG, WAEC Dismiss Fake Report

By Erewunmi Peace

The Federal Government and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have debunked a viral report claiming the cancellation of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), also known as WASSCE.

In a joint statement issued over the weekend, both the Ministry of Education and WAEC described the report as false, misleading, and capable of inciting unnecessary panic among students, parents, and schools.

Speaking to the media, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo, urged the public to disregard the fake news circulating on social media platforms. “There is no truth to the claims. The 2025 WASSCE was conducted successfully and marking is currently ongoing,” she stated.

WAEC’s Public Relations Officer, Moyosola Adesina, also reaffirmed that there has been no cancellation. She explained that the Council had already concluded the examination phase and is on track to release results by August 4, 2025, as earlier scheduled.

“The misinformation is baseless. We advise candidates and the general public to rely only on official updates from WAEC through our website and verified social media channels,” she said.

The Federal Government emphasized that while there were isolated incidents of examination malpractice in some centres, they were swiftly addressed and do not warrant or justify any cancellation.

As the release date approaches, students are encouraged to remain calm and ignore unverified reports from unofficial sources.
