DSS Confirms Prosecution of Owo Church Attack Suspects — But Not All Perpetrators Confirmed Arrested
By Erewunmi Peace
The arrest and prosecution of individuals linked to the 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, have been confirmed by Nigerian authorities. However, official sources have not stated that all perpetrators behind the deadly incident have been fully apprehended.
In August 2025, five men accused of involvement in the massacre were arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja. They are currently facing trial over the killings, which left dozens dead and sparked nationwide outrage.
Further updates from the Department of State Services (DSS) and federal officials also confirm that prosecutions related to the attack are ongoing, with suspects still undergoing court processes.
While multiple arrests have been made since 2022 — including earlier detentions by security agencies — authorities have not publicly declared that every person connected to the coordinated attack has been captured. This indicates that investigations may still be open as the government continues its counter-terrorism efforts.
The Owo church attack remains one of Nigeria’s most shocking incidents of domestic terrorism in recent years. Families of victims and the wider public continue to seek justice and full accountability for all those responsible.
As court proceedings continue, stakeholders expect more transparency and definitive updates on whether additional suspects may still be at large.
