‘I’m Comfortable’ – Makinde Meets Tinubu, Dismisses Defection Speculation
By Erewunmi Peace
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has dismissed speculations about a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Makinde said he remains “comfortable” in the PDP, stressing that his visit to the president was focused on governance and national development rather than partisan politics.
The governor explained that leaders across party lines can engage in discussions when it concerns the progress of the country, adding that such meetings should not be misinterpreted as political realignments.
“I am comfortable where I am,” Makinde said, responding to questions about rumours linking him to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Makinde’s visit comes amid a wave of defections and political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, fueling speculation whenever opposition leaders engage with the presidency.
However, the Oyo State governor reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP and maintained that collaboration with the Federal Government is necessary to address issues affecting Nigerians, regardless of party affiliations.
The meeting is believed to have centered on governance, security, and economic matters, though official details of the discussion were not disclosed.
