By Erewunmi Peace
Residents of Osogbo are counting their losses after a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds caused widespread destruction across parts of the city.
The rainstorm, which occurred on Saturday evening, reportedly damaged several homes, uprooted trees, and destroyed properties worth millions of naira. Eyewitness accounts revealed that roofs were blown off buildings, leaving many families displaced and seeking temporary shelter.
In some affected areas, billboards and electric poles were also brought down by the force of the wind, disrupting movement and raising safety concerns among residents.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that one person may have lost their life during the incident, although authorities are yet to officially verify this claim at the time of filing this report.
Residents have called on the Osun State Government and relevant emergency agencies to urgently intervene by providing relief materials and support for those affected.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns about the impact of extreme weather conditions and the need for improved urban planning and drainage systems in the state.
As of press time, officials are expected to assess the extent of the damage and provide further updates.
