Study Suggests Frequent Ejaculation May Improve Sperm Quality

By Erewunmi Peace

A recent study has suggested that frequent ejaculation may play a role in improving sperm quality, offering new insight into male reproductive health.

According to researchers, sperm that is stored in the body for extended periods may experience reduced motility and increased DNA damage. By contrast, more frequent ejaculation may help the body produce “fresher” sperm, which could be more active and healthier.

The findings indicate that regular ejaculation—rather than long periods of abstinence—may be beneficial, particularly for men concerned about fertility. Experts note that shorter intervals between ejaculations may reduce the buildup of older sperm and improve overall sperm vitality.

However, health professionals caution that moderation is important. While frequent ejaculation may support sperm quality, excessively frequent ejaculation over a short period may temporarily reduce sperm count.

Medical guidance generally suggests maintaining a balanced frequency, often around every two to three days, as a practical approach for supporting reproductive health.

The study adds to growing research on lifestyle factors that influence fertility and highlights the importance of informed health choices.

More research is expected to further clarify the relationship between ejaculation frequency and sperm health.
