The Federal High Court in Abuja has admitted additional confessional statements and forensic evidence in the trial of the suspects accused of the June 5, 2022 attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.
During proceedings before Justice Emeka Nwite, the court accepted confessional statements from the defendants, as well as a Digital Forensic Examination Report and a Tecno mobile phone linked to one of the accused, which contained critical communications used in the investigation.
The Department of State Services (DSS), prosecuting the case, formally closed its case after calling 11 witnesses, including forensic experts and law enforcement officers who detailed the link between the defendants and the attack.
The trial has now been adjourned to early March 2026 for the defendants to begin their defense.
The attack on St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church left dozens dead and many others injured, shocking the nation and sparking widespread calls for justice.
The ongoing trial has drawn attention for the presentation of digital forensic evidence and confessional statements, which prosecutors say directly connect the accused to the planning and execution of the attack.
Authorities continue to urge the public to trust the judicial process, assuring that all evidence is being carefully examined to ensure justice is served.
