The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, has officially opened a section of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, marking a major milestone in the reconstruction of one of the South-East’s busiest highways.
The partial opening, which covers approximately 15 km, was aimed at easing traffic flow, especially during the
Easter travel season.
Minister Umahi described the event as a significant step towards enhancing transportation, boosting trade, and improving regional connectivity.
The project, which had suffered delays in previous years, is being accelerated by the Federal Government and is expected to be fully completed by 2026.
Officials noted that the highway is a key corridor linking economic hubs in the region and will improve travel safety and efficiency once completed.
The Minister also encouraged stakeholders and motorists to exercise caution while using the newly opened section as reconstruction continues on other parts of the expressway.
