Leaders from Yoruba and Igbo self-determination groups have announced plans to explore a peaceful separation from Nigeria, citing political, security, and structural challenges in the country.

The announcement was made by the Coalition for De‑Amalgamation and Security, a civil society alliance representing figures from both the Yoruba and Igbo regions. The coalition described Nigeria’s current structure as unsustainable and emphasized that their efforts would follow lawful and nonviolent processes.

The move is part of ongoing discussions by self-determination groups advocating for greater autonomy or restructuring, and it does not represent any official government action from the federal or state levels.

While the plan has generated attention online and in social media discussions, major mainstream news outlets note that the initiative is a voluntary political action by the groups involved, rather than a binding political decision.
