Traditional Worshippers Submit Petition to Police Over Alleged Desecration of Osun Shrine

Traditional worshippers in Osun State have submitted a petition to the police following an alleged desecration of a shrine at the Osun‑Osogbo Grove, a sacred cultural and spiritual site.
The petition, lodged by the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association of Osun State, calls for a thorough investigation into the incident, which they say involved unauthorized entry and interference with one of the grove’s shrines. The worshippers described the act as a violation of religious customs and cultural heritage.
The Osun State Police Command has confirmed receipt of the petition and stated that the matter will be investigated thoroughly. Meanwhile, the state government has engaged with representatives of the traditional worshippers and the parties involved to promote calm and seek a peaceful resolution.
Officials emphasized that the Osun‑Osogbo Grove remains an important spiritual and cultural landmark, and authorities are committed to protecting it while ensuring respect for all religious practices.
