LAUTECH Students Protest Transfer of Anatomy, Physiology to Pure Sciences Faculty

By Erewunmi Peace

Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) have staged a protest over the decision by the university management to transfer the Departments of Anatomy and Physiology from the College of Health Sciences to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences.

The protest, which took place at the institution’s main campus in Ogbomoso, saw students barricading major entrances while demanding a reversal of the decision approved by the university Senate.

According to reports, the Senate at its January 21, 2026 meeting approved the transfer as part of an internal restructuring aimed at streamlining faculty administration and enhancing career progression opportunities for academic staff.

However, students of the affected departments described the move as “unacceptable,” arguing that Anatomy and Physiology are foundational components of medical sciences and should remain under the College of Health Sciences.
Placards displayed during the protest carried
inscriptions such as:

“Physiology belongs to Basic Medical Sciences”

“Protect the integrity of Medical Sciences”

“Don’t separate Anatomy from Medicine”

Protesters expressed concerns that the relocation could affect their academic identity, training structure, and professional prospects after graduation.

As of press time, the university management had not issued an official statement addressing the concerns raised by the students.

Observers say the development highlights ongoing tensions surrounding faculty restructuring in Nigerian tertiary institutions, particularly where medical and science disciplines intersect.
