Fuel Price Hike: Abiodun Approves Weekly Day Off, ₦10,000 Transport Allowance for Ogun Workers

By Erewunmi Peace

Governor Dapo Abiodun has approved a weekly day off and a ₦10,000 transport allowance for civil servants in Ogun State as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices.

The governor announced that the initiative, which takes effect in April 2026, is designed to ease the financial burden on workers following recent increases in transportation and living costs.

Under the arrangement, eligible workers will observe one day off per week, while all affected employees will receive a monthly transport allowance of ₦10,000.

However, essential service providers, including health workers, teachers, and security personnel, are exempted from the weekly day-off policy due to the critical nature of their duties. They will, nonetheless, benefit from the transport allowance.

The state government noted that the measure will run for an initial period of three months, after which it will be reviewed based on prevailing economic conditions.

The development comes amid ongoing concerns over the rising cost of living across the country, with state governments exploring various ways to support workers and maintain productivity.
