In a significant move to boost the morale and welfare of corps members, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, has announced an increase in the monthly state allowance for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in the state.
Effective August 1, 2025, the monthly allowance will rise from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000, representing a 300% increment.
Governor Eno made the announcement during a recent address to the state executive council and NYSC officials, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to supporting youth development and nation-building.
“We understand the importance of national service and the challenges that corps members face. This increment is our way of showing appreciation and providing meaningful support as they contribute to our state,” he said.
With this new development, corps members posted to Akwa Ibom State will now earn a total monthly stipend of ₦97,000, combining the Federal Government’s ₦77,000 with the enhanced state allowance.
The announcement has been met with excitement and gratitude from corps members and NYSC officials across the country, many praising the governor’s gesture as a bold and compassionate step toward improving the NYSC experience.
This move places Akwa Ibom among the few Nigerian states leading in corps welfare, setting an example for others to follow.
