EFCC Raises Alarm Over Fake Operatives Conducting Illegal Raids

By Erewunmi Peace

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a public warning over the activities of individuals impersonating its operatives to carry out illegal raids and extort unsuspecting Nigerians.

In a statement, the anti-graft agency disclosed that the fake operatives have been staging unauthorized “sting operations” while posing as EFCC officials. The suspects reportedly wear counterfeit uniforms and present themselves as law enforcement officers to deceive members of the public.

According to the commission, these impersonators target individuals in various locations, including public spaces, where they carry out unlawful arrests and demand money from victims.

The EFCC described the development as a serious security concern and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant. The agency advised the public to verify the identity of any EFCC official and report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.

The commission also reiterated that its operations follow due process and are conducted in line with the law, warning that anyone caught impersonating its officers will face prosecution.

The alert highlights growing concerns about criminal activities involving impersonation and underscores the need for increased public awareness and caution.
