The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured an interim forfeiture order from a Federal High Court over opioid consignments valued at approximately ₦33.6 billion, seized at the Onne Port in Rivers State.
The drugs were intercepted during a major anti-narcotics operation targeting illegal drug trafficking networks. The agency confirmed that the substances were classified as dangerous opioids intended for unlawful distribution.
Following an application by the NDLEA, the Federal High Court granted the interim forfeiture order, allowing the government to take custody of the seized drugs pending the conclusion of legal proceedings.
Chairman of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the court’s decision, describing it as a significant boost to the agency’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Nigeria.
He also praised the operatives involved in the operation, noting that the seizure reflects intensified efforts to dismantle drug networks and curb the circulation of illicit substances in the country.
The case is expected to continue in court as authorities pursue final forfeiture and possible destruction of the seized opioids.
