Akande Says Edun Faced Tension Over Tinubu’s Reliance on Oyedele in Economic Decisions

By Erewunmi Peace

Former Presidential aide, Laolu Akande, has commented on reported tensions within Nigeria’s economic management team, saying that former Finance Minister Wale Edun was not pleased with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s increasing reliance on Taiwo Oyedele in key fiscal policy decisions.

Akande explained that the development reflected internal dynamics within the administration’s economic team, where multiple technocrats have been involved in shaping policy direction.

According to him, Tinubu’s preference for certain advisers, including Oyedele, played a significant role in economic discussions and decision-making processes, which reportedly created differing viewpoints within the team.

He noted that such disagreements are not unusual in government, especially where reforms and policy restructuring are ongoing.

The comments come amid broader discussions about changes in Nigeria’s economic management structure and recent adjustments within the federal cabinet.

The situation highlights the influence of key economic advisers in shaping fiscal policy under the current administration.
