Religion Will Never Be Allowed to Divide Oyo State — Makinde

By Erewunmi Peace

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining religious harmony in the state, stating that religion will never be allowed to divide the people of Oyo State.

The governor made the statement during a public engagement with intending pilgrims in Ibadan, where he emphasized the importance of unity among residents regardless of religious beliefs.

Makinde noted that both Muslims and Christians in the state have continued to coexist peacefully, adding that his administration will sustain policies that promote tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect.

He further stressed that governance in Oyo State remains focused on development rather than religious or ethnic considerations, urging citizens to continue to support peaceful coexistence.

The governor’s remarks come amid broader national conversations on unity and diversity, as political activities gradually intensify ahead of future elections.

Observers say the statement reinforces Makinde’s consistent position on promoting inclusiveness and preventing religious sentiments from influencing governance in the state.

Further reactions are expected as political and community leaders continue to engage on issues of unity and development.
