Fresh Xenophobic Attacks Reported in Parts of South Africa as Nigerians Advised to Stay Cautious

By Erewunmi Peace

Reports emerging from South Africa indicate renewed incidents of xenophobic violence in some parts of the country, raising concern among foreign nationals, including Nigerians residing there.

The disturbances, which were recorded in selected areas such as parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Johannesburg, involved protests and sporadic attacks targeting foreign-owned businesses and migrants. Nigerians were among those reportedly affected in the affected locations.

Authorities in South Africa have condemned the violence and deployed security operatives to restore order in the impacted communities. Officials have also assured that efforts are ongoing to prevent further escalation and to protect the rights of all residents, regardless of nationality.

In response to the development, Nigerian diplomatic authorities and diaspora commissions have advised Nigerians living in South Africa to remain vigilant, avoid high-risk areas, and comply with local security directives.

The situation has sparked renewed concern over xenophobic tensions in the country, which have occurred intermittently over the years, often triggered by economic and social grievances.

Further updates are expected as security agencies continue to monitor developments across affected regions.
