The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has officially launched the National Innovation Commercialisation Initiative in Kano State, aimed at transforming local innovations and research into commercially viable products.

The programme, known as the Energised Commercialisation Now (ECoN) initiative, was unveiled during a ceremony held in Kano State, where stakeholders from the science, technology, and innovation sectors gathered to mark the launch.

According to the organisers, the initiative is designed to bridge the gap between research institutions, innovators, and investors, with the goal of turning ideas developed in laboratories and universities into market-ready solutions.

The First Lady explained that the project will support young innovators, startups, and researchers by providing access to funding opportunities, mentorship, and platforms for commercialisation.

She noted that the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda of promoting economic diversification through innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship.

Officials also described Kano as a strategic location for the launch due to its growing base of entrepreneurs and its importance in Nigeria’s industrial and commercial activities.

The programme is expected to be implemented across the country in phases, with regional hubs supporting innovation development and business growth.
