Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has announced a three-week mid-semester break following recent student protests over transportation and welfare concerns on campus.

The decision was approved by the university’s Senate after demonstrations by students disrupted academic and administrative activities within the institution.

Reports indicate that the protests were triggered by issues related to transportation arrangements and general student welfare, which led to heightened tensions across the campus.

In response, the university management directed all students to vacate the campus while normalcy is restored and discussions are held to address the concerns raised.

The institution stated that the break is intended to create room for dialogue between relevant stakeholders and to ensure a peaceful academic environment moving forward.

Students are expected to resume after the three-week period, as the university works toward resolving the issues that led to the protest.
