The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially recognised the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) under its National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, in compliance with a recent court ruling.

The development follows a judgment by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which affirmed Gabam as the legitimate leader of the party. In line with the decision, INEC updated its official records to reflect the recognised leadership, indicating that the action was taken based on a court order.

The commission’s move effectively settles, at least legally, the leadership dispute within the party, which had led to internal divisions among members and factions.

However, the decision has continued to generate reactions within the SDP, as some groups within the party have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the outcome and maintained opposing positions.
