Anioma State: Okowa Criticises Nwoko Over Approach, Says Proposal Needs Collective Agreement

By Erewunmi Peace

Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has criticised Senator Ned Nwoko over his handling of the proposed Anioma State creation, saying the approach being used is not proper and requires broader consensus.

Okowa stated that the agitation for Anioma State should not be driven as a personal or one-sided campaign, but should involve collective engagement and agreement among stakeholders in the region.

He noted that while the creation of Anioma State is not opposed in principle, the method being adopted by the senator could mislead the public and raise unrealistic expectations.

The former governor further stressed that issues of state creation in Nigeria require constitutional processes and wide consultation, rather than individual advocacy alone.

The remarks come amid ongoing debate over the demand for Anioma State, which has continued to generate discussions among political stakeholders in Delta State and beyond.

Both political figures remain influential in Delta North politics, with differing views on how best to pursue the state creation agenda.

The matter continues to draw public attention as discussions around restructuring and state creation persist in Nigeria’s political space.
