Overcrowding Crisis Rocks Lagos NYSC Camp as Corps Members Sleep in Corridors, Others Sent Home

By Erewunmi Peace

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Lagos State is currently facing a severe overcrowding crisis, leading to uncomfortable living conditions for incoming corps members.

Reports from the camp located in Iyana Ipaja reveal that due to limited accommodation space, many corps members were forced to sleep in corridors, open spaces, and other makeshift areas within the camp.

The situation reportedly worsened as some prospective corps members were either turned back or sent home due to the inability of the camp to accommodate the high number of participants for the current batch.

Eyewitness accounts describe the environment as highly congested, with new arrivals struggling to find proper sleeping arrangements upon registration.

The development has raised concerns among corps members and stakeholders about infrastructure capacity and preparedness ahead of each NYSC orientation exercise.

While officials are yet to issue a detailed public statement on the incident, the situation highlights ongoing challenges faced by the scheme in managing large inflows of participants during orientation periods.

The NYSC is expected to address the issue as the orientation programme continues.
