The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a 13-count charge bordering on treason against individuals accused of plotting to overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The charges were filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, marking a significant development in the government’s response to the alleged coup plot.
According to reports, the accused persons include a mix of military personnel, security operatives, and civilians allegedly linked to the plot. The charges are said to involve offences such as conspiracy, treason, and related national security violations.
The case is believed to be connected to an earlier crackdown by security agencies on suspected coup plotters, which led to several arrests in late 2025.
Legal experts note that treason is one of the most serious offences under Nigerian law and carries severe penalties if proven in court.
As of now, the accused individuals are yet to be convicted, and the case will proceed through the judicial process.
The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding national security and maintaining constitutional order across the country.
