Nigerian Soldier Arrested Over Alleged ₦114 Million Fraud and Fake Hero Story

The Nigerian Army has arrested Staff Sergeant Amoke Simon, a serving soldier, over allegations of defrauding victims of approximately ₦114 million by fabricating a heroic military story.
Military sources revealed that the soldier falsely claimed to have played a pivotal role in the 2010 operation that eliminated notorious Abia kidnap kingpin Obioma Nwankwo, also known as “Osisikankwu”. He allegedly used the fabricated narrative to solicit money from individuals, a private company, and even government officials.
The arrest was carried out by joint troops from the 14 Brigade and 6 Division Provost Units at the Port Harcourt International Airport while the soldier was attempting to travel to Abuja. Investigations confirmed that he was not involved in the 2010 mission and had never been deployed to any Boko Haram fronts, contrary to the claims he used to collect funds.
Authorities say the soldier will be transferred to Lagos for further investigation and disciplinary action, as the Army continues to clamp down on personnel involved in fraud and misconduct.
This development has highlighted ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Army to maintain integrity within its ranks and ensure that fraudulent schemes by serving personnel are promptly addressed.
