The Federal Government of Nigeria has disbursed a total of approximately ₦2.3 trillion in special intervention funds to the military and other security agencies between 2023 and 2025, amid ongoing security challenges across the country.

The funding, released in multiple tranches, was aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces and supporting paramilitary agencies in tackling insurgency, banditry, and communal violence.

According to financial records, the disbursements were made over an extended period rather than as a single allocation, with funds issued in phases to address urgent security needs nationwide.

Security agencies that benefited from the intervention include the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, among others.

Despite the significant financial commitment, insecurity remains a major concern in several parts of the country, with incidents of violence and displacement continuing to affect communities, particularly in the North-Central and North-West regions.

Analysts have raised concerns over the effectiveness and transparency of the spending, noting the absence of detailed public breakdowns on how the funds were utilized.

They emphasize the need for improved accountability and strategic deployment of resources to ensure that such large-scale investments yield tangible improvements in national security.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with security challenges, stakeholders are calling for stronger oversight and better coordination among security agencies to maximize the impact of government funding.
