INEC Fixes June 20, 2026 for By-Elections in Six States

By Erewunmi Peace

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced June 20, 2026, as the date for by-elections to fill vacant legislative seats in six states across the country.

The elections will cover various positions, including senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly seats left vacant due to resignations, deaths, or other circumstances.

INEC stated that the by-elections will be conducted in line with the electoral timetable and guidelines, ensuring a transparent and credible process.

The commission also noted that the exercise will take place on the same day as the Ekiti State governorship election, allowing for efficient deployment of resources.

Political parties are expected to begin preparations, including primaries and campaigns, ahead of the scheduled date.

Observers say the by-elections will provide an opportunity to fill key legislative gaps and strengthen representation in the affected constituencies.

Further details on the conduct of the elections are expected to be released by INEC as the date approaches.
