By Erewunmi Peace

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of the Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Professor Sani Malumfashi, and three other officials in prison over alleged fraud totaling ₦1.02 billion.

The ruling was delivered by Justice James Omotosho, who directed that the defendants remain in Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of their formal bail application.
The suspects, who pleaded not guilty to six-count charges, include:

Professor Sani Malumfashi – Chairman of KANSIEC

Anas Muhammed Mustapha – Secretary of KANSIE

Ado Garba –
Deputy Director, Accounts Department
One other unnamed official

The charges, filed by the Independent Corrupt
Practices and Other Related Offences
Commission (ICPC), allege that the defendants diverted public funds between November and December 2024 through multiple bank accounts linked to a farm, in breach of financial and anti-corruption laws.

Justice Omotosho adjourned the matter for the formal bail application and emphasized that the defendants would remain in custody until the hearing.

This development marks a significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and hold public officials accountable.
