The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted a large consignment of cannabis sativa valued at about ₦18.9 billion, concealed inside used vehicles imported from Canada.

The seizure was made at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos during a joint operation involving Customs officials and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

According to officials, the illicit substances were hidden inside containers declared as used vehicles, including cars such as a Toyota Camry and a Chevrolet.

The operation led to the discovery of multiple bags of cannabis carefully concealed within the vehicles, in what authorities described as an attempt to evade detection.

Customs officials said the interception was made possible through intelligence-led surveillance and enhanced cargo inspection procedures at the port.

The seized drugs have since been handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to tightening border controls and preventing the smuggling of illicit substances into the country.

The development highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat drug trafficking through Nigeria’s ports.
