Fresh grief has enveloped the ECWA community in Omugo, Kwara State, following reports that five worshippers abducted during a church attack are feared dead in captivity.

The victims were among worshippers kidnapped when armed men invaded the church during a service earlier this year, sparking widespread concern across the community.

According to reports, the tragic development came to light after one of the abductees reportedly escaped from captivity and returned to the community with information about the fate of the remaining victims.

Among those feared dead is the wife of the church minister, Pastor Sunday Omole, whose prolonged captivity had attracted public attention and calls for intervention.

Church leaders and community members have expressed deep sorrow over the reports, describing the incident as a painful reminder of the security challenges affecting many communities across the country.

The abduction had earlier triggered efforts by families, community leaders, and security agencies to secure the release of the victims, with reports indicating that ransom payments had been made during negotiations.

Security concerns have continued to grow in parts of Kwara State and neighboring areas, where incidents of kidnapping and violent attacks have affected several communities.

Residents have called for intensified security operations to combat criminal groups operating in forested areas and to prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities.
