Police Arrest Suspect Behind Viral AI-Generated Voice Note Attributed to Tinubu

By Peace Erewunmi

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a suspect alleged to be behind the creation and circulation of a viral AI-generated voice note falsely attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The suspect, identified as Ifechukwu Dennis, was reportedly apprehended following investigations into the controversial audio recording that circulated widely across social media platforms.

According to authorities, the voice note was generated using artificial intelligence technology to mimic the President’s voice and contained statements that were not made by him.

Presidential officials described the recording as fabricated and misleading, warning that the spread of manipulated content poses serious risks to public trust and national discourse.

The arrest followed days of public debate over the authenticity of the audio, which gained significant attention online after being attached to social media content and widely shared by users.

Security agencies stated that investigations are ongoing to determine whether other individuals were involved in producing or distributing the recording.

Experts have increasingly raised concerns about the misuse of artificial intelligence tools to create realistic but false audio and video content capable of misleading the public.

Authorities have urged Nigerians to verify information from credible sources before sharing content online, especially materials involving public officials and national security matters.

As of the time of filing this report, the police were expected to provide further details regarding the investigation and possible legal proceedings against the suspect.
