EFCC Arrests Former Power Minister Saleh Mamman After ₦33.8 Billion Fraud Conviction

By Erewunmi Peace

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, following his conviction and sentencing over financial crimes involving ₦33.8 billion.

Mamman was recently convicted by a Federal High Court in Abuja on multiple counts of money laundering and financial misappropriation linked to power sector projects.

The court had earlier sentenced him to a total of 75 years imprisonment in absentia after finding him guilty of offences connected to the alleged diversion of funds meant for critical national power infrastructure.

According to reports, the EFCC confirmed that the former minister was arrested after going into hiding following the court’s judgment.

The commission said the arrest was part of efforts to ensure enforcement of court rulings and accountability in high-profile corruption cases.

The case is linked to major power projects, including the Mambilla and Zungeru hydroelectric schemes, which have been under investigation for financial irregularities.

The development has attracted public attention due to the scale of the conviction and the prominence of the former minister.

Further legal processes are expected as the matter continues in line with Nigerian judicial procedures.
