Agbakoba Blames Civil Service Culture, Weak Institutions for Nigeria’s Fiscal Crisis

By Erewunmi Peace

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Olisa Agbakoba, has attributed Nigeria’s worsening fiscal challenges to weak institutions and an inefficient civil service culture.

Agbakoba made the remarks while speaking on issues surrounding governance, public finance management, and institutional performance in the country.

He argued that Nigeria’s fiscal difficulties are not solely caused by revenue shortages, but also by systemic weaknesses in governance structures.

According to him, the effectiveness of public spending is significantly reduced by institutional inefficiencies and policy inconsistencies within government systems.

He further stressed the need for structural reforms to strengthen institutions and improve accountability in public administration.

The senior lawyer noted that addressing these challenges is essential for achieving sustainable economic stability in Nigeria.

His comments have continued to generate discussion among policy analysts and stakeholders on the need for governance reforms to address the country’s fiscal concerns.
