Falana Demands Release of Detained NFSS Commander-General, Six Others

By Erewunmi Peace

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has called for the immediate release of the Commander-General of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Dr. Joshua Osatimehin, and six other officials reportedly detained since April 2026.

Falana alleged that the officials were being held following directives linked to the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), headed by Nuhu Ribadu.

According to the senior lawyer, the continued detention of the NFSS officials without formal trial raises concerns over constitutional rights and due process.

He urged security authorities to either charge the detained individuals to court or release them immediately in accordance with the law.

Reports indicate that the detained officials have remained in custody for several weeks, although authorities are yet to provide detailed public explanations regarding the reasons for their detention.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Office of the National Security Adviser nor other relevant security agencies had issued an official statement responding to Falana’s demand.

The development has generated public discussion over issues of detention procedures, security operations, and respect for fundamental human rights in Nigeria.
