Court Rules Goodluck Jonathan Eligible To Contest 2027 Presidential Election

A Federal High Court in Abuja has reportedly ruled that former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to contest the 2027 presidential election if he decides to participate in the race.
The court was said to have dismissed a suit seeking to stop Jonathan from contesting on the grounds that he had already taken the presidential oath of office twice.
According to reports, the court held that Jonathan’s assumption of office following the death of former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua did not violate constitutional provisions regarding presidential tenure.
The ruling has since generated reactions across political circles, with supporters and critics expressing different opinions over the possibility of Jonathan’s return to active presidential politics.
Political observers, however, noted that the judgment only addresses his constitutional eligibility and does not amount to an official declaration of interest in the 2027 election.
As of the time of filing this report, the former president had not publicly announced any intention to contest the next presidential election.
The development comes amid increasing political discussions and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections across the country.
