2027: Ex-Senate President Nnamani Advocates Thorough Scrutiny of Public Office Seekers’ Records

By Peace Erewunmi

Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, has called for stricter scrutiny of individuals seeking public office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nnamani made the call while speaking at a public engagement in Enugu State, where he emphasized the need for proper verification of candidates’ academic qualifications, character, and professional records before they are allowed to contest elections.

According to him, Nigeria’s democratic process will benefit greatly if only individuals with proven integrity and credible backgrounds are entrusted with leadership positions.

He noted that repeated controversies surrounding forged certificates and questionable appointments have continued to undermine public trust in governance.

The former Senate President urged political parties, electoral bodies, and relevant institutions to strengthen their screening processes in order to ensure transparency and accountability in leadership recruitment.

Nnamani added that leadership selection should be based on merit, competence, and integrity rather than sentiment or political loyalty.

As of the time of filing this report, his remarks have continued to generate discussions among political observers ahead of the 2027 elections.
