The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested five suspected arms couriers, including two foreign nationals, in connection with investigations into the 2025 abduction of students and staff from a Catholic school in Papiri, Niger State.

According to security sources, the suspects were allegedly involved in supplying weapons to armed groups linked to the attack on the school, which resulted in the kidnapping of hundreds of students and staff members.

The arrests followed a series of intelligence-led operations conducted across different parts of the country. Investigators believe the suspects were part of a network responsible for moving weapons to criminal groups operating in the region.

Security officials said the operation represents a significant breakthrough in efforts to dismantle networks that provide logistical support to kidnappers and other violent criminal groups.

The Papiri school abduction, which occurred in November 2025, was one of the largest school kidnapping incidents recorded in recent years. The attack drew national and international attention and prompted intensified security operations in affected areas.

Authorities have continued investigations to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities and identify other individuals who may be connected to the network.

Security agencies reiterated their commitment to tackling kidnapping, banditry, and other forms of violent crime through intelligence gathering and coordinated operations.
