Jibrin Claims Some Northern Governors Opposed Tinubu’s 2022 Presidential Bid

APC chieftain and member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has claimed that some northern governors were initially opposed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential ambition during the early stages of the 2022 campaign.
Jibrin made the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television, where he recounted the early mobilisation efforts that led to Tinubu’s emergence as the APC presidential candidate.
According to him, several political stakeholders who later worked for Tinubu’s victory were initially discouraged from supporting the former Lagos State governor’s presidential bid.
He said the early campaign structure involved key party figures including former APC National Chairman Bisi Akande, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, and other political associates who played roles in the initial campaign coordination.
Jibrin further stated that despite early resistance from some political actors, Tinubu eventually secured victory and went on to extend reconciliation and appointments to various groups within the party after assuming office.
He also described Tinubu’s post-election approach as one that prioritised forgiveness and political inclusion across different blocs within the All Progressives Congress.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the governors referred to in the interview were not disclosed, and no official responses have been issued by the individuals or state governments involved.
