Ooni of Ife Urges Yoruba Monarchs to Strengthen Role in Fight Against Banditry

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has called on Yoruba traditional rulers to intensify efforts in supporting the fight against banditry and kidnapping across the region.

The monarch made the appeal while speaking at a cultural gathering, where he expressed concern over the growing insecurity affecting several communities in the Southwest and other parts of Nigeria.

According to him, traditional rulers must work more closely with one another and collaborate with government security agencies to restore peace and protect citizens.

He emphasized the importance of combining cultural values, ancestral heritage, and community-based approaches with formal security strategies to address criminal activities.

The Ooni stressed that traditional institutions have a critical role to play in maintaining social order and ensuring that communities remain vigilant and united against insecurity.

He also called for stronger cooperation between religious leaders, community stakeholders, and government authorities in tackling the root causes of violence and crime.
