DSS Has Become Nigeria’s Most Proactive Agency, Says Tonnie Iredia

By Peace Erewunmi

Security and governance analyst, Tonnie Iredia, has described the Department of State Services (DSS) as one of the most proactive security agencies in Nigeria.

Iredia made the remark while speaking on national security issues, where he highlighted the growing role of the DSS in intelligence gathering and internal security operations across the country.

According to him, the agency has become more active in responding to emerging security threats and supporting efforts aimed at maintaining national stability.

He noted that the DSS has continued to play a key role in preventive security operations, including intelligence-led interventions and collaboration with other security institutions.

However, the analyst’s comment represents his personal opinion and not an official classification of security agencies by the Federal Government.

The DSS remains one of Nigeria’s key internal security agencies responsible for counter-intelligence, surveillance, and the protection of national security interests.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official government ranking of security agencies based on proactiveness or operational performance.
