Adeosun Backs Talent Gap Concerns, Says Dangote Also Faces Hiring Challenges

By Erewunmi Peace

Former Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has weighed in on the ongoing debate about Nigeria’s workforce readiness, supporting recent remarks by Moniepoint CEO Tosin Eniolorunda on the challenges of hiring qualified talent.

Speaking on the issue, Adeosun noted that the difficulty in finding skilled workers is not limited to one company, adding that business leaders across sectors are experiencing similar challenges.

She further claimed that prominent industrialist Aliko Dangote has also faced difficulties in sourcing suitable staff, reinforcing concerns about gaps in workforce preparedness.

The discussion follows earlier comments by Eniolorunda, who revealed that his company has struggled to fill several positions, particularly at the senior and technical levels.

The remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some stakeholders agreeing that there is a mismatch between available skills and industry demands, while others argue that Nigeria still has a strong talent base that requires better opportunities and investment.

Observers say the debate highlights the need for improved education, training, and skills development to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving economy.

However, Adeosun’s reference to Dangote’s experience has not been independently confirmed by the businessman, and is being treated as her personal account.

Further reactions are expected as conversations around employment, skills, and economic growth continue.
