Kayode Are Presents Credentials to Trump, Assumes Duty as Nigeria’s Ambassador to US

Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to the United States, Kayode Are, has officially presented his Letter of Credence to U.S. President Donald Trump, formally beginning his diplomatic assignment in Washington.
The ceremony took place at the White House alongside credential presentations by ambassadors from several other countries.
Kayode Are, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel and former Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after receiving Senate confirmation in late 2025.
According to reports, the diplomatic event featured officials of the U.S. State Department, the National Security Council, and an honour guard mounted by members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Are is expected to strengthen diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United States, focusing on areas such as security cooperation, trade, investment, and bilateral engagement.
The ambassador is widely known for his long career in intelligence and national security administration, having previously served as the head of Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency.
His resumption comes as Nigeria seeks deeper international partnerships and improved diplomatic engagement with strategic global allies.
